Freedom

One of the best things that men-made are movies.  I guess it is true that we at times relate them, of course they are man – made, made for men.  I never thought I would relate to a character in a movie till I saw “Their eyes were watching God”, Based on a novel by Zora Neal Hurston, starring Helle Berry.

Jenny,  played by Helle Berry, always longed for freedom.

“There is two things that everybody got to find out for their selves, they got to find out about love, and they got to find about living, now love is like the sea, is a moving thing and is different on every shore, and living, well, I just gone from burying the dead” she utters these words in the beginning of the movie.

Like Jenny, I also have love to give and life to live but I desire freedom more, for it allows me to freely love and go on living. Without freedom, love and life are like showers dripping on a dry desert.

Love and life are different from freedom, when you know how to love, you will know how to hate, when you have life, you will surely meet death. Freedom is free and eternal, it is experienced on the before, the current and the after.

To love and to go on living, you have to have freedom in your conscious. Without freedom you may be  alive and might have a lover but it does not guarantee you living or love.

Jenny has been caged for twenty years while she was married to Mayor Starks, she was freed after his passing. When she met Tea cake, she was in love and was fully living. When Tea cake lost his life, she experienced death and lost her love but she had freedom. Freedom will allow her to gather her life, go on living and love again.
